Seattle is a beautiful place with almost limitless places to take amazing portraits. For me having too many options can make it really difficult to make a choice, so I have created a list of some very cool places in Seattle to take engagement portraits.
Read MoreAs a personal project, I have started what I am calling my Spotlight Series. There are so many people in our community that are working to make things better in some way. My vision is that I want to find them, meet them, photograph them, and tell their stories.
The first person that I get to tell you about is Ian Bauer. He is a lawyer in Seattle that fights for abused kids and elderly people. He is also a dad, a music lover, and a former soccer goalkeeper.
Read MoreI met Nick at Pier 62 after another session. It is a great place for senior portraits at night. We did some portraits at Pier 62 with beautiful Seattle in the background, and then walked down the waterfront to find some neon lights for the background. It was great fun and I love the images.
Read MoreI met Averie at her sister’s wedding when she was 11. Since then, I’ve photographed her sister’s family a few times and her brother Chase when he was a senior. For Averie’s session, we met at the new waterfront park on Pier 62. I’ve been itching to shoot there with the entire city back behind Averie lit up the city lights.
Read MoreI met Levon and his mom in Bellevue for his senior portraits in the late afternoon and evening. Levon and his mom told me about their family, his brief history in fencing, and his college plans as we walked through Downtown Bellevue Park and the streets of Bellevue.

Read MoreI met Emma, her mom, and her sisters at Pike Place Market for the beginning of her senior portrait shoot. Emma goes to Edmonds Woodway High School. After some images in the Market, we went down the stairs to the Aquarium where we had arranged to have a portrait session after hours. That was a very cool and fun place to shoot. We only had 30 minutes, but I could easily have spent three hours there. After our time at the Aquarium was up, we went next door to the new waterfront park for a few photographs before the darkness set it. It was great fun to photograph Emma!
Read MoreAmy is an aspiring photographer. She needed some portraits of herself for her website and social media. It is always a great compliment to me when a photographer I don’t already know chooses me for their photographs! I am a big believer in the power of good portraits in a small business’ marketing campaign.
Read MoreDelaney’s family has been friends of ours since before she was born. Her older sister and my daughter became friends in elementary school. Over the years, in addition to social visits, I have photographed their family, their extended family, cousins’ weddings, her sister’s wedding, and all three of her siblings’ senior portraits. It has been an extraordinary pleasure to watch Delaney grow up. I can’t wait to see what she does next!
We went to Marymoor Park for her senior portraits. :)
Read MoreKathy and Nick planned to have a beautiful big wedding this summer. That didn’t work out with the pandemic and the restrictions on receptions. So they postponed their big party until next year and decided to do a micro wedding on the Washington coast. They chose the adorable little planned village of Seabrook in the Pacific, Washington area. We had planned on some images of the two of them taking off their shoes and playing in the water at sunset for some spectacular images. Then the smoke rolled in from Oregon and California for the weekend of their wedding. They had a fantastic attitude about it. They still got married, and they still had a great time with their friends. Your wedding either goes perfectly, or you have a great story to tell for the rest of your life!
Read MoreI met Rebekah and her mom at Occidental Square in Seattle for her senior portraits. Then we walked around to find a few places in the area before heading to Pike Place for a few more.

Read MoreMona & Jonathan came from California to get have a micro wedding at the courthouse in Seattle. They live in the bay area and have full-time jobs as well as both working on their Master’s degrees. Seattle courthouse weddings look pretty different at the moment with weddings happening outdoors within walking distance at various courtyards in the area. Mona & Jonathan are very cool people. Congratulations!.
Read MoreMeeran and Jaewoo are super cool, super nice people. They had big plans for their wedding. What we did was a beautiful micro wedding at Kerry Park with some portraits in Fremont and Ballard before the ceremony. Kerry Park is a fantastic place to get a great view of Seattle. It is totally cool to get married there without a reservation as long as you don’t make people move or set up chairs and equipment. Anyway, congratulations to Meeran and Jaewoo!
Read MoreJulia & Blair had big wedding plans. Instead, they ended up with a socially distant micro wedding for them and their family in a backyard on Bainbridge Island. They and their families were great people to spend the afternoon.
Read MoreMatt and Nilou are a cool couple. They were fun to hang out with and take photographs of. They had their micro wedding at the beautiful Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland. The Woodmark has a permanent tent that lets them have great ventilation and space for a wedding during the pandemic while also giving the feel of a more traditional wedding. They also have wonderful grounds and docks at Carillon Point for some great images. After the ceremony, we even got to go for a ride in their boat around Lake Washington. Very cool.
