Read More2020 was a strange year to be a wedding photographer. It started out with all of these plans for a couple of dozen big weddings. Some of those plans changed, others got postponed, and some people went for an elopement. The term for elopement also kind of morphed into "micro wedding" for some people that wanted an awesome event with fewer people.
Read MoreKathy and Nick planned to have a beautiful big wedding this summer. That didn’t work out with the pandemic and the restrictions on receptions. So they postponed their big party until next year and decided to do a micro wedding on the Washington coast. They chose the adorable little planned village of Seabrook in the Pacific, Washington area. We had planned on some images of the two of them taking off their shoes and playing in the water at sunset for some spectacular images. Then the smoke rolled in from Oregon and California for the weekend of their wedding. They had a fantastic attitude about it. They still got married, and they still had a great time with their friends. Your wedding either goes perfectly, or you have a great story to tell for the rest of your life!

Congratulations!.

What we did was a beautiful micro wedding at Kerry Park with some portraits in Fremont and Ballard before the ceremony. Kerry Park is a fantastic place to get a great view of Seattle. It is totally cool to get married there without a reservation as long as you don’t make people move or set up chairs and equipment. Anyway, congratulations to Meeran and Jaewoo!

The Woodmark has a permanent tent that lets them have great ventilation and space for a wedding during the pandemic while also giving the feel of a more traditional wedding. They also have wonderful grounds and docks at Carillon Point for some great images. After the ceremony, we even got to go for a ride in their boat around Lake Washington. Very cool.
Read MoreI met Alexa and Kevin in West Seattle for some photographs with an awesome view of downtown. They love their dogs, so we included their dogs in a lot of the images as well as going to one of their favorite parks to hang with the pups. As I was talking to them about how they were from the midwest and moved to Seattle for their jobs, I was fully expecting them to be in the tech field like so many in the area are. They are in a way, but they build rockets for Blue Origins. It just sounds cool.

It was a very heartfelt event that had far more guests via Zoom than were in physical attendance. I believe there were 12 family members at the wedding. Willows Lodge made it a great day despite the modern challenges. Congratulations to Heather & Kevin!

It was a joy to be back photographing a wedding! Lisa and Chris are also fantastic people to hang out with, so they made it especially fun for me to be back doing what I love. Lisa and Chris had originally planned on having an elopement at the Seattle Municipal Court with a dozen guests. They ended up getting married in their backyard with one of my favorite officiants, Annemarie Juhlian, performing the ceremony. Before their ceremony, we went to Richmond Beach Saltwater Park for some portraits.
